From the Beginning
02:14
|
|||
"This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond."

Father Time
05:04
|
|||
It's quite now
white leaves are falling
I don't dare question how
Do you feel the breath of death so near?
It's neither cold, nor clammy
I thought I'd hide
in the dark
but I found you
were as hidden as I
To my surprise, in the light I found life
in my own willingness to die
I thought I'd check
on Father Time
and seek out His advice
but through watching a watch I found out
he is the voyeur, not I

Two Windows
04:08
|
|||
There's two windows in my room
but two of them are closed
I'm afraid of being exposed
What's a home anyway?
In many beds I've lain
Nothing is mine
The higher the branch, the longer the plummet
One year or a thousand, it's still just a moment
Oh, a life of borrowed time:
the sum of my past lives
I would pay to cut it out
What a feeling to lose it all
how I got here I cannot recall
It was a matter of time
The smaller the casket, the sadder the story
The longer you live, the more you get boring

Lonesome
02:36
|
|||
Do you think of me?
Well, I pretend you do
I haven't heard from you
but I don't mind
I write you letters
I write you songs
Although I choke on words,
I know you hear me
I rid myself of all things that don't allow me to be free
I rid myself of all things that don't allow me to be free
And I hope you've been doing the same
Yeah, I hope you've been doing the same
Your picture is framed, I know you feel me

Pawn to Both Sides
03:06
|
|||
Oh shit, I'm doing it again
cutting off my hands and limbs
and I wish to lay within
but I can't seem to find it
Broad Street has so many colors
but they all seem to dim
well, we have something in common
Do they war with themselves too?
Well I thought I could hide
by pleasing everyone in sight
but I have lost the light
I have lost my mind
I have got no guidance
as to what's wrong and right
but you can't play a prairie-dog
who is pawn to both sides
I just want to find me someday
i just want to find me someday
Oh shit, I'm doing it again
cutting off my hands and limbs

Home (April 11th)
02:22
|
|||
Well, it's been three months
While all the time passes,
I've been shuffling around
You know April 11th has been on my mind
I'm waiting for the time to pass
It has been a long walk home
but I think I'm going to stay
Now I got to go to court
there have been some things I can't afford
It just keeps adding up each day
There's been some lessons I've forgotten
and some others I've unlearned
But I am finding the way
It has been a long walk home
But I think I'm going to stay

Keep Coming Back
03:15
|
|||
I am heading to the place
where I've been learning how to live
each one of us we come as we are
The truth is in our faces
we are putting ourselves out there
for all of these strangers to see
And although I haven't shared
they know my story's quite the same
I've got so much to say, but I've been hiding
And they say, "Come, come back it helps"
And I nod, but I know that I can't leave
"Come, come back it helps. We know what happens when you leave."
I'm trying to reconcile my mind
because some shit ain't sitting right
And I am wondering how the hell that I got here
We are sitting side by side
and I swear the room divides
Well, these walls they were built to set us free
And they say, "Come, come back it helps"
And I nod, but I know that I can't leave
"Come, come back it helps. We know what happens when you leave."
I know that I can't
I know that I can't
I know that I can't leave
"Come, come back it helps. We know what happens when you leave."

Ghost (Get Up!)
05:26
|
|||
Through the window I can see
a flashing of lights
in what seemed to be the end of a life
Ghost looked so confident
in the dark and hollow night
Where a light shined once more,
a breath was restored
I have stared right through a Ghost;
the Ghost did not look back
On the floor, innocent no more....
Get up! Let's do what we do! Let's do what we do!
Get up! Let's do what we do! Let's do what we do!
No answer, just silence
filling the place
where daydreams and innocence
had been lost with our faith
the Ghost did not look back
the Ghost did not look back
the Ghost did not look back
the Ghost did not look back

A Coming of Age
05:23
|
|||
Your stories they tell
a coming of age
and I could listen all day
All day
It's the struggle of your
understanding
not the struggle you understand
Understand
It's as strange as a feeling
when death comes to say
that the ones whom you love
must be on their way
And I can't for the life of me
quite understand
what I am feeling
or where I stand
I am trying to change
trying to feel
well its like (changing) iron into steel
And looking back now
I can see all the things
and people that got me here
I can see in the mountains
and valleys and rains
that wash away life
to leave us remains
of a life not quite lived
still i feel it's a shame
that some people
really need a little rain
and I've needed a little rain....
There are mountains and valleys
and trees and the rain
washes away life
that need not remain

There's a light in the darker things
no evil could erase
as too exists a streak of black
in any halo
There's a light that's within
and it never leaves
It doesn't matter if you can't see it
it never leaves
Light, won't you carry me home?
The time of the universe
it never stops
It ticks and it tocks, and we all watch
from the time of birth
to the time of death
fear of the next breath sees no rest
Time, won't you leave me alone?
Light, won't you carry me home?
There's a light in the darker things
no evil could erase
as too exists a halo
in any shadow

Nature is a Fall
05:01
|
|||
Sky, are you aware
of the land beneath my feet?
Oh, neither am I
This moment it exists
as another's time
Oh, nothing is mine
Nothing is mine
Everywhere I go, I meet myself
We are on the clock, but it's another's watch
Nature is a fall
I have sold some dreams, worth a life a piece
Mother, do you know
where it is I've been
Oh, neither do I
Neither do I
Everywhere I go, I meet myself
Everywhere I go, I meet myself
Everywhere I go, I meet myself
Everywhere I go, I meet myself
